Health Ultrasound Today ~ Results

Wow. What a ride this has been. First off, let me say that our Little Miracle looks perfectly healthy!

It was a long night last night. I have a nervous stomach, so I get sick when I get nervous. I also don't sleep when nervous, so I was prepared for a night of no sleep. Our Little Man (21 months old now) decided to keep mommy up too. He was up every 30-45 minutes from 8:30 until about 1:30 when we finally caved and gave him Tylenol and more milk. We had tried milk around 10, and we were rocking him or rubbing his back every time he was awake! I don't know if he is teething, or just felt sick last night, but he finally crashed around 2 a.m.!

We got up at 7:30 this morning, and woke up Little Man. We took him to my sisters so she could watch him while we went to the ultrasound. My appointment was at 9, and we got there early again, about 8:30. They took me straight back, and the ultrasound tech started looking at Little Miracle. My husband was sitting in the chair next to me, with a pen and paper in hand, ready to write down anything that they said, so I could remember it. Needless to say, he did not write anything down!

The tech did all the measurements of the bones, the head, the belly and looked at the heart and brain for a while for details of them. She also re-confirmed it is a boy! She didn't talk much during the ultrasound, which kinda made me nervous. I mean, he looks healthy to me, but what do I know? I don't know what his heart and brain and bones are supposed to look like on an ultrasound. Before she left to get the doctor, she said that he was going to come in and review everything, but she does not see anything that concerns her. PHEW!!!

The doctor came in shortly after she left, and took a look himself. He told us about the amino before he looked at Little Miracle, and said he would do it today if we decided. After he looked at the ultrasound pictures and had a look around himself, he told us that he sees NO markers for Downs at all, and that the baby is measuring right on - even confirmed it was a boy, again. He did not even mention the amino again after he looked at Little Miracle. He told us our risk went down from 1 in 181 (I had the number wrong... I thought he said 1 in 151 earlier) to 1 in 780 with the lack of Downs markers, which is more on target for the risk for my age group. We are going back to see him around 28 weeks, to get another look at Little Miracle when he is bigger, but that is just more for peace of mind, the doctor said.

The ultrasound was very short, so we were out of there in about 30 minutes, which was nice. We went to the bank and to breakfast before we had to pick up Little Man, so my husband could get to work.

Our risk for Downs is still there, but now it is so small, that we are not going to think about it anymore. We will find out at birth if he has it or not. Thank you all again for all of the thoughts, prayers, emails and comments. They really helped me calm down my racing mind!
